For at least two years, I have been writing about former US President Donald John Trump, and I confirm that I (as a commentator) write about him as a (different political phenomenon)
He alone was able to establish a huge popular movement that changed the political face of the US 🇺🇲 forever
I had written an article in its first part, and there will be a third part related to the future of Trumpism and Trump himself
Why am I writing this article?! Why am I going to write a third part of it?!
Because Trump's fiercest political opponents, of course, Washington Post published a report a few days ago that intersects with my vision of the Trump phenomenon
The author of the report is Robert Kagan, a neo-conservative Republican academic and researcher, and a supporter of President Bush Jr. and Liz Cheney After Trump won the Republican nomination in 2016, Kagan protested, left the Republican Party, and supported the Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton The question that imposes itself here is how a conservative Republican can support the Democrats?! This is a secret that only the state of American democratic institutions knows
The Washington Post report warns of the Trump phenomenon, and the report begins starkly: "America may face -during the next three to four years- a political and constitutional crisis unprecedented since the Civil War" Kagan predicts that there could be extreme mass violence and a breakdown of federal authority, and the country could be divided into warring blue and red enclaves According to the report, the Washington establishment's lack of understanding of Trump revolves around seeing him as a conservative politician who is followed by conservative masses. This is a mistake in terms of detail, not principle Because Trump supporters are not just conservative Republicans, but former Democrats, neutrals, and their loyalty is not to the Republican Party, but to a charismatic leader, Trump
The danger of the Trump phenomenon stems from the fact that the masses did not support him for reasons related to the economy, immigration and others, but rather support him because they see that America has been kidnapped from socialists, minorities and perverts, and that Trump is the leader who will challenge all of these and restore America from them Trump, for his fans, represents the true identity of America. Anyone who wants to understand the scene should watch the WWE Shows Trump's opponents imagine that their attack on him will make his supporters abandon him Trump supporters believe that he is a victim who is being eaten up by the media and elites, and therefore he is a victim like them, and this increases their attachment to him As Kagan's report confirms: "Never in American history has the relationship of supporters with the leader become as close as it is between Trump and his supporters" The Washington Post report says, "Many believe Trump supporters are white supremacists" This is wrong in detail, not in terms of holism, as the report adds text: “Most Trump supporters are middle-class, middle-aged working-class people, some of them are small business owners, and they are good, socially active parents, and Trump has galvanized them"
Kagan's report in the newspaper predicts that Trump will become the Republican candidate for the presidential elections in 2024, and no one will be able to compete with him because 90% of Republicans support him Here the report begins by comparing the Trump phenomenon to the fascist movements in Europe!!! And he warns that Trump supporters are ready to do anything to ensure his victory Kagan's report criticizes the Republican Party, which has invested Trump to achieve victories at the expense of the Democrats (court judge nominations, for example) but also gave him the power to hijack the party and 90% of its fans Knowing that the Republican Party, led by McConnell, has repeatedly tried to isolate and curtail Trump The report continues to criticize Republican politicians, media, and wealthy supporters who have succumbed to Trump's control of the party, and even senior retired Republican politicians who do not hope for positions have not uttered a word against Trump It is possible to comment does the power and influence of the masses is hidden from an academic and researcher the size of Robert Kagan?!
The funniest thing in the report is that the current political war is not between the Biden administration and the Republican Party, but between the Biden administration on one hand, and Trump -who is considered out of power- and his supporters on the other The report predicts that Republicans will win the midterm congressional elections in 2022, after which Trump will announce his candidacy for the presidency, and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter will be forced to restore his accounts as a presidential candidate The report adds that Trump will be stronger this time, and then Kagan starts talking about the real goal of his report: What should we do to avoid the Trump phenomenon?! Kagan suggests that Trump's Republican opponents in Congress Mitt Romney, Sassi and their colleagues abandon the Republican Party and cooperate with Democrats to confront Trump if he loses the upcoming elections so that there is no political and constitutional crisis
I wonder here, didn't these Republicans stand with the Democrats in the last elections?!
The summary of the report ends here and here is my comment
In my estimation, Robert Kagan wrote the report in the post after the state of the ruling solid institutions realized that the Trump phenomenon had already become a threat to the political movement in America Trump came from outside the circle of elites in Washington without previous political experience. Then, after being sure of his overwhelming popularity, he naively decided to confront and challenge the state of solid, ancient, fierce institutions with claws and fangs, and he paid the price for that
Where the state of institutions hoped -as the Kagan report mentioned in the Washington Post- that it would disappear, but that did not happen
Trump is still working, issuing statements and recommendations for candidates and attending rallies, and he has worked out a healthy diet -according to his doctor- and does not hide his hints of returning And his popularity -even according to the Washington Post report- is on the rise in light of a weak president, a confused administration, and mostly disastrous policies internally and externally, and this is an environment that Trump and his supporters dream of.
